The reservior is located under the Powerstroke cover, and there is an allen plug that you remove to see the level. I believe it should be around 3/4 full. I'm not really sure on how often you should check this.

No, you do not need to check this regularly unless you are having a problem with your injectors during cold starts. If you want to check it, it is the allen head plug on top of the reservior and the oil should be about 1/2" from the top. If it is more than one inch then your check valve may be malfuncioning. Oh, and it is to be checked after it has sat for an extended period, like overnight.
