Hey guys my son was going down the road in his 1988 F150 4x4 and lost all forward movement,he pulled over to the side trying to find a gear but couldn't,he said the clutch would stay on the floor when he pushed it and the truck would not go into any gear no grinding or nothing even with the truck shut off we can not get any gear, the clutch master cyl is full but i did notice some leakage down by the slave cylinder, would the slave cyl cause this or do i have bigger problems, any help would be apreciated..
Sounds like the slave cylinder went kablooie. What trans is this? If it's the M5OD, then you'll have to slide the tranny back to get to it. This wouldn't be the first I've heard of this happening on this trans before. Just to be sure, I would check the linkage under the dash and make sure nothing broke.
When you say it wont go into any gear, do you mean no gears will engage or that the shifter can't be pushed into any gear position. My mother just went through this with her 95 F-150 with the M5OD. Lost all forward motion, the shifter would go anywhere you wanted it to, but the truck just idled like it was in neutral. Her clutch pedal still worked though. The tranny was too low on fluid and melted the gears on the input shaft. My parents never did get it fixed, in fact that truck was the donor for the front half of my body swap. If you want to check the inside of the tranny, a large section of the floor is removable which will give you access to the top of the tranny. You can remove the top cover with the shifter in it to see if everything is ok. It sure beats pulling the tranny to find out.
