Taking Bets!!

Vote and bet here on my transmission. Yep I'm wondering how much life is left in it. My truck right now has over 93K miles on the stock transmission. The only upgrade to the tranny has been the Sonnax valve/spring kit. All other mods have been to the engine and suspension. The transmission has taken some abuse: running over 70K miles on 35" tires with the stock 3.73 gears (recently upgraded to 4.30's); over 20K miles with the DP-Tuner; some drag racing; towing; mountain climbing; you name it. I'm not always light on the throttle. In fact, my brother-in-law recently said I still drive like a pissed off teenager in high school. Soooooooooo....

Here's what's happening now:
- 2-3 shift error codes popping up from time to time.
- Erratic and sloppy shifting.
- T/C is having lots of trouble locking up at WOT.
- Found metallic sludge on the dipstick.
- Fluid is not burned (yet) and the tranny has never overheated.

My plans have been to drop in a BTS when the stocker finally goes south. Now I'm not sure if I have much time left. I'm definately not going to shed a tear over the stock transmission. Instead, let's see how much longer I have.

Count me in on under 5,000 miles. Mine isn't going out AFAIK but it's still a stock transmission, and slips. If i can get what i want out of my wheels&tires, and lift, i will have almost enough for a transmission.

Yes, I'll probably drop in a cooler from a Torqshift. I'm starting to watch Ebay for a good used one. Unless someone here has one

LOL Jeremy. You lucky dog.

BTW, how's that BTS pump doing? I'm looking at upgrading the I/C and going to a big oil setup at the same time I do the tranny work. I'm still trying to decide which one to go with.

It's doing just great! Not a lick of problems out of it, and it's still churning out some extra torque from my stock injectors. I have had zero problems with it, no stumbling or hesitating, no leaking lines, nothing. It's just waiting to drive some bigger injectors when I can afford them.

I talked to Brian for a while about his pumps, and was quite impressed with the amount of testing and design work they did before they ever released it. And, one thing you can be sure of, Brian won't release something with his name on it until he's 100% happy with it. And he's probably his biggest critic. You can't go wrong with a BTS pump setup.

Quick question- the second pump, the one "on top", is it just a duplicate of the stock pump below it? The reason i asked was because i heard a rumor a while ago that it was a pump off a IH 530, that ran in reverse, due to gear meshing, and that is what stuck in my mind. If its another stock pump it would be great because i picked one up for cheap and i could just use that. Just my luck that it is NOT.

Well Kris, today is your (un)lucky day, because the top pump is indeed a 530 pump, running in reverse (compared to the stock pump) for the very reason that you said.

Only 93K on yours?? HA! I wish that's all I had. I've got just over 190k on my stock transmission, put the shift sonnax valve & springs in about 80K ago, along with most of my other mods. Just pulled a 12row corn planter home 100 miles on a 30ft gooseneck, weight wasn't an issue but wind resistance was. Ran 55-60mph, 1000-1200* on pyro, 15-20psi from the turbo & the tranny temp pegged the whole way home, 250*+ (not by choice of course). Got home & changed oil & filter, ATF, fuel filter and anything else I could think of to baby on it. I'm hoping it holds up long enough for me to get enough cash for something better.
It's done well for as bad as everyone talks about them. It could be alot better, but it still gets me around and pulls everything I've hooked to it.

Well, for your wallets sake I hope she lasts another 90K.

I ran 35's for about 125k then switched to 33's for my fivers sake, have been running the 33's about 100k, towing TT's for FEMA last year, 125K of 90Hp programmer, a little dragging, ALOT of mud splashin. so what I am sayin is I am up to 225k+ on the stock factory tranny , with nothin more than 6 fluid changes and filters.

I think she just wants some attention, giver some fresh fluid to drink, have her screens cleaned, and tell her she's the only one, and maybe she'll last you another few months.
