I went to my exhaust shop today to seee if he could install headers for my truck. He did not want to, because one, it was an extremely tight fit, and two, it be risky knowing if the bolts wold brake, and it would be extremely expensive, and after all that work, a gakset could blow and it would leak. So what we decided what would be best, is run a true dual off the manifolds. We would give each manifold a 3 inch pipe running all the back under the bumper. I would use two serperate 3 inch cats, and 3 inch mufflers. My question is, what are good mufflers. I have a 40 series from Flowmaster, and that sounds sweet, will it be even meaner with two!? Or how about Dynomax ultraflows? Are those even badder? Will there be enough back pressure, wont this be amazing!? It will breathe great, and at any one point where i can get the money, I could have someone butt headers to the exhaust system. How much HP and torque could i expect from running true duals on 3 inch pipe? The truck is a 1995 F350 4x4 Automatic, with a 1997 460 motor in her.
Never mind guys, I am going with 2 1/2 inch pipe instead. The three inch wont provide enough back pressure, and i will only gain horsepower in higher bands, so dont listen to previous post. Going to run Flowmasters.
Heres the new idea: Ceramic coated Hedman headers, followed by true duals, 2 1/2, or 3 inch pipe (which is better???). Follow into high flow cats, then followed into two seperate 40 series mufflers, underneath rear bumper. Total cost of $1200-1300 parts, and install. This system should be better than any out there. Will the 3 inch pipe have enuff back pressure? According to arctic y block, with the cats and the mufflers, there should be plenty. Do I need to run a X pipe or H pipe, or can they run independently just fine?

Will this muffler basically be killing to birds with one stone? WIll it be as loud or louder than if i ran two 40 series muffflers? What is a cross over pipe and how good is it if you can avoid having to do one?
If you plan to run cats, it wont matter what size pipe you use after them, you already have back pressure. You could probably forget mufflers too and save some cash as the cats will kill a lot of sound as well. I wouldn't even think/worry about backpressure. My truck has true duals, 2.5" pipe with no cats or mufflers and it has plenty of power.
Any one running Ultra Flow Welded Performance Mufflers? If so, you like them? Are they mean? Better than 40 series Flowmasters? Do they have a differerent tone?
man dont mess with the cats throw them out, thats what we do around here, surely u can find another shop that will make u true duals, and forget the mufflers, see how it sounds wihtout them u can alwyas pop on a couple later on, cherry bomb glasspacks from jcwhitney sound really good, on my 460 i had headers flowing into a single exhuast with a cherry bomb about 2 feet in front of the rear axle, sounded really good all my pipe was 3 inch, but seriously look for another shop and see if they will make u true duals, without any of the other cats or mufflers ans whatnot.
Back pressure wouldnt be an issue running 3 inch duals with no cats or mufflers? I dont looose any power do i running cats and mufflers? if so, how much horsepower and torque could i look to gain extra without running cats or mufflers with shortie headers with 3 inch duals? I like sound, but what will it sound like with no mufflers or cats, piere engine noise? How does that sound...?
all engines arent the same some sound good some sound bad u just have to expirement, like i said go pure no cats of mufflers u can alwyas slap a couple on
I dont think the guy putting the system in will let me do that. He also is a certified inspection place, maybe he will, but then he probably woudnt inspect it for me. I dont know, I just kind of want to just run the cats and mufflers and never have to fittle fudge with it later. I am running the Hedman Shorties into the two duals, and that will be badass. What is the differnce between The Flowmaster 40 series and Super 40? Which is more aggressive?
o and u can use headers i had them on my 460, previous owner installed them, they were Hookers, the guy built hotrods for on the side of farming, he filed the headers then used silicone for the gaskets, it is a tight fit, from looking at them from under the truck, but they will fit take a look at some hooker headers, and get true duals, without any other crap, tell him they are for offroading, im told that usually works. good luck
usually when someone tells u that it will be to tight, or any other excuse, its becuase they dont want to mess with it like the tire place around here they wont mess with big truck tires cause they just dont feel like it, and then they loose a customer who will not be coming back.
Yeah, I am tired of guys who wont get down and dirty when there being offered money to do what there ad says they will do. I am sick of it, butI know I guy who will do it, but I will have to have him install the headers, and go somewhere else to have someone custom build the exhaust system. I am against going with a cat back, I dont like the look. I am thinking of bring both 2 and 1/2 pipes out behind passenger side rear wheel. Will that look goofy?
