I have a 1995 F350 dually. Pedel is soft and will go to the floor with continued pressure. Been this way about 2 yrs but now getting worse sometimes doesn't want to stop at all. never can lock them up for a panic stop. Had the brake system gone through 3 times in last 2 yrs. 2 master cylinders, 2 splitter valves, pads, shoes, cylinders, still the same. The shop claimed they talked to Ford and no ideas. Lots of bucks in this and no change. Any suggestions?
Yes it has ABS, not leaking or loosing fluid anywhere, and installed 2 new master cylinders same day. I'm starting to sense the idiot thing! They want me to bring it back so they can experiment some more. No way, thats why I'm asking you all!
2 wheel or 4 wheel ABS? I ask because the 2 wheel ABS has an accumulator which is prone to failing in just this way. There is a TSB from Ford on this one, I believe.
thanks
further research tells me that there is a sensor in the rear end,an isolation valve,a dump valve and an accumulator. Is there any way that all this could be unpluged and work as just an old fashioned braking system.
No doubt. Should be fairly simple. Did you research the TSB that Davhut mentioned? Have you had Ford run an Oasis on your VIN# to check for open recalls and TSB's?
I highly recommend doing this (I do this with any/every vehicle I work on.) You would be amazed the recalls still open on older vehicles. Last year, a 1990 4Runner I bought at auction still had open recall on the head gasket. Nothing like free repairs! I also had 2 open recalls on my much older 88 GMC truck - new set of front rotors and a new trani dipstick tube!
