Idle problems
2000 explorer eddie bauer. SOHC 4L motor. check engine lights is on. It does not want to idle when it is cold. Once motor is warmed up, it seems to idle just fine. I have went through and replaced plugs and wires. Also the check fuel cap light comes on and off. I replaced the fuel cap and that didnt make a difference. What could it be?

Supporting what Marragtop said, I have a 2000 SOHC 4L as well, with 142k miles now. I completely lost my idle twice, roughly every 50K. Like it would just die on the road, if you took your foot off the gas. All I had to do both times was take the idle air control (IAC) valve off, (two bolts and a connector, 5 minutes) and clean it real good with carb cleaner and a small paint brush or some such tool. It fixed it completely each time for another 50K miles. Free. On that engine, the IAC is located near the EGR and gets sooty faster than on most engines. Good luck!
