Ive asked this question before awhile back but am asking again to see if I get any different responses.
Rain + Miter cut stacks= bad/good ?
Last time I asked this question majority of the responses said not to worry about rain getting in there.
Now though it seems like everybody I talk to tells me "YOU NEED FLAPPERS, rains gonna screw you all up." none of these people can speak from experince though. I just need some reesurance from you guys who can speak from experince. Will getting rain in the stacks be a bad thing. Keep in mind I live near seattle, wa. this last nov we got close to 15in of rain. (not like that all the time)
I all ready drilled a hole at the 90 under the bed, about 1/8in.

Reason: I dont know how to spell
I don't have stacks on my f350 but I drove big truck for 15 years and about the only problem I think you will have is blowing that moisture back out mixed with black soot getting all over your truck. That will happen mainly on start up till the pipes dry out. When ever I took my rig in for a wash before I started it the wash guys would cover my stacks with rags to keep that from happening . I am sure you could come up with something like that for yourself the stacks on a pickup are a lot lower than on a big truck.
Well right know I have two sunny delight bottles on top of them with bungee cords keeping the wind from blowing them off. I just dont want to have to worry about it all the time. Its not a big deal once Im home for the night, I just dont plastic bottles or coffee cans on top of my truck for the 9 hrs im at work. And as iv told all the other people "NO FLAPPERS"
Have you tried leaving you bottles off and see what you end up with ? I mean if it's raining and you fire her up the soot should be washed away by the rain . If it's not raining just see how bad it is.
Personal experience here - no flappers. The rain will not hurt a thing. Just make sure theirs a small drain for it. Mine happens to drain out where the flex pipe meets the elbow. There's just a small enough gap to let water out. Like 1996 said, about the only "problem" you'll run into is some soot blowing out after a rain storm.
I have no personal experience and was going to say that it was a stupid question until I thought about how much rain you get. I agree with JT about the drain holes and keep it/them clear. If I had stacks, I wouldn't care because I would simply evaporate anything but that is me, and I have a company car, and my truck sits under a car port most of the time.
Edit: upon a few minutes further thought, I would shy away from a miter cut if rain was a big issue. I've seen some real nice looking turn-outs or whatever they are called.

New year's eve i parked outside at a buddy's house and the next "afternoon" i went to start it after a heavy heavy rainstorm the previous night, and i had no water come out of the stacks. Just a few small chunks of condensed soot that went floating in the air.

I actually thought about that as I was purchasing them, but I personally dont care for the looks for the turn-outs unless they're on duallys. I dont know why.
By the way thanks to everyone who responded. Ill try it out today while Im at work. Hopefully there arnt any huge down pours.
Im sure all the bmws I park around are going to love it everytime I start it up after a rain. To bad.
i forget who posted that video of the mess that was made when he got water in his stacks. it was a white truck to top it off. I know some people put drain plugs in just in case.

I've seen this clip as well. It was a 94-97 body style pickup. Made quite a mess on the roof and hood. If I remember correctly, he said if the soot/water slop dries it's a real pain to get off.
Yeah I tried it out today without anything covering it. It rained like a sonofagun too. I went out and started it and let it run for awhile. I didnt see anything to crazy going on.

Well lucky me, my truck is white. I didnt see anything on it tough. Ofcoarse I didnt look on top either. I still got some 6in pvc with end caps. That way I have something for those heavy rain days. Of coarse there not as stylish as my cut up pop bottles.
