Computer interchangablity

Ok in mist of taking apart a wrecked 97 F350 I bought for the front dana 60 to put in my 97 250. As I was pulling apart the interior I noticed the computer had a PAC chip on it. Since I have been waiting to afford bigger injectors. I have not bought any chip to put on my 97 250. I am want to try this chip out if no one has any bad news about it.

The two computers look like they have different numbers on them so I can't just swap the chip right?

So my real question is can I swap the computer out of the 97 350 with a automatic trans into, my 97 250 with a manual trans?

I found a website that talked about the chip and it seemed ok to run since I have big intake, exhaust, and gauges.

Thanks for any help.

Here is a website for the chip http://www.pacchips.com/htm/x_ford.htm

I searched for it on here and in the superduty section found a guy that liked his but sayed he couldn't get ahold of the company when he upgraded to a later model chip.

If anyone had info I'd appreciate it.

ok if i gather this right

the parts truck was an auto
your truck is a manual.

just pull the chip off of the f350 computer and put it onto yours. since you have a manual you will be fine.

you wouldnt want to do it if it were the opposite. but you will be ok.

unless one is a cali truck and the other isnt.

if the truck the chip came off of was a federal and yours is a cali the truck wont start.

dont know about the opposite.

if you live far from cali i wouldnt sweat it. if you are worried about it click on the link in my sig find my dads truck and see how a cali truck differs from yours or the f350.

Thanks, I didn't know you could switch chips with different computer numbers.

I can only wish I had a cali truck I would kill for some bigger injectors. I just have a few projects left before I can afford them.

Ok I just got through put the chip on my 97 250 and it will not start you get no wait to start light. Pull the chip out and it will fire right back up.

I know about cleaning both sides of the computer I scraped all of the coating off really good I do not think the connection is bad.

Is the chip bad or is it because of the computer numbers being different? I don't think this is a possibility because about a month ago I started the wrecked truck with it on.

Can I put the computer and chip out of the wrecked 350 with the auto transmission into my 250 with the manual trans with the chip on it.

no, the donor trucks computer will have brains to shift the auto trans. Without the auto trans there the computer will be confused and have a mental breakdown, so to speak.

Thanks for the info, that just ruined my day. I thought I had found a chip that I really didn't buy and it would hold me over until I could afford something better. I quess ebay has another chip for sell, unless I hear elswwise.

Thanks Nathan
