I have an 04 Explorer XLT that all of the sudden (yesterday while it was 30 degrees outside) started making a funny tapping noise and now the heater blows out cold air, even though the gauge indicates that the car is warm. I checked my antifreeze and everything, they appear to be fine...has anybody else experienced this? If so, is this something I can repair myself?
weldcome Toki. the temperature is controled by a motor driven plastic door (called the blend door). that mixes cold and hot air to get the righ temp. If the radiator is hot, and the gauge is hot, and the air in the cab is cold, then the door is not moving. make sure the **** is not loose or broken. after that, you need to see if the blend door is moving. search the past for posts about the blend door and its repairs. big mob to take out the dash, you can sneak in under the glove box and patch it. Have not heard of too many failures on the newer EXP, though this was from a few years ago.
The noise doesn't change when I turn the ****. But it does seem to be coming from inside of the dash, so I will go through the post and try to see what's going on. Wish me luck!!
