as someone had already stated, you could use a hood switch from an aftermarket alarm system. Could probably score on in a junkyard, then you just have to mount it right so it would work properly. No reason you couldn't take a mercury switch from a junker and use it though.

thanks for the info. boys. I made a trip to the local junkyard on Saturday (& the guy was offended when I called his "surplus parts depot" a junkyard!), and for ten bucks, I got a lamp assembly with a mercury tilt switch, bulb and wiring harness out of a pre-1995 model...mounted a galvanized metal plate near the bottom of the hood insulation blanket, & wired it up to the battery with an inline fuse holder and a toggle switch (just in case it screws up) and it works great! Only trouble is it came from a Chevy! Will you forgive me for using genuine GM Mr. Goodwrench parts on a FORD truck?? Am I worthy of posting in the forum again for this atrocity? ;-)

We were ok with it until you told us, now you're on the blacklist! Seriously though, when you go hunting for a certain part of a gereric nature, who cares what it came off of. I'd do the same thing, just wouldn't admit it came from a chebby!

Just another option. You could install a door jam switch to turn on the light under the hood. That's what I was thinking of doing under my Snug Lid to turn on the light when opening so I could see in the bed without fiddleing around for the switch or holding a flashlight. It already has a light so it would be easy to do.
