Any one know if the water pump is covered under warranty? 66000k miles on wifes excursion, came home from fire station today, she had already left to her station. I noticed about a quarter size puddle on driveway. smells and tastes like coolant. and in the right spot. Just assuming it is the water pump.. Hoping it is a warranty item.
It shold be rooster, check under the pump pulley and see if the weep hole is leaking. Another place for a leak to spout is the gasket on the lower hose extension.
BTW: from an old school smoke-eater we have all done that more than once but after a spill a few years ago I added "If it glows dont taste it"
OK water pump is not leaking. It is the gasket between the water pump and where the lower radiator hose connects.
Two questions, one is that gasket truly a gasket or is it the bead gasket that comes in a tube?
Second, I am gonna try some alummaseal type stuff first. Where do I put it in? in the overflow tank or remove the upper radiator hose and pour it in there?
After looking at the first filter i replaced and seeing the silicate built up when I swapped the water pump I dont like to put anything in there except coolant. I think the oring just comes with the lower extension assembly, try this link http://www.thedwilsons.com/powerstro...t_Numbers.html it may have one.
DO not use the bars leaks, it is crap! It may lube up whatver it does, but it also coats the walls of the entire cooling system, including the water jackets, where the cool water is needed. The layer of this junk on the walls decreases heat transfer and greatly decreases the efficiency of the cooling system. That said, The Right Stuff does work well, i used that on a customer's truck when i removed his lower radiator hose elbow for the oil cooler job.
Yep, its a "make-a-gasket" you can use on just about anything. I usually let it sit for a minute or two to get tackyyyy. I had to use it on my compressor housing when i rebuilt it, and you should have seen me prying it off the turbo when i went to install the ATS housing. Boy was that sucker tight. I could have saved 5 bolts for something else
