We should all resolve to slap the hands that reach into our pockets once a month...
If you have AOL (or other top-dollar ISP) dial-up, call & cancel. You can still keep your email adress for free, and if you want to keep AOL as your ISP, just ask them to match the competitor of your choice's rate...they'll do it, and have been for years.
This can also work with your credit card company, telephone companies, cable, DSL provider, etc. You've nothing to lose but a few minutes on the phone (in some cases they will even waive past charges or make the rate reduction retroactive to keep you as a customer).
Shop around for insurance rates...if you don't you're almost certainly paying too much, maybe WAY too much.
Property insurance is a rip-off...unless you have coastal (hurricane) exposure, the odds that your house will ever be declared a total loss from fire, wind, etc. are similar to winning the lottery. Nevertheless, many home insurers INSIST on insuring your home for the assessed value or more, yet most assessment values are based on a land value of 25% or more of the total. Consider high-deductible "catastrophic" insurance. If you're healthy, this may also be the way to go with health insurance. With auto insurance, skip the "frills" & collision coverage if the vehicle has marginal value.
Last but not least, if you have a major purchase on the horizon, (big ticket item or large quantity), shop around for the lowest price, then take that lowest price to the competitor who offers a "lowest price + 10% guarantee." This is easy money that few shoppers avail themselves of...sure, you sometimes have to wait in line, fill out a form, etc., but you can save a bundle for your minimal inconvenience. (FYI: usually must be an identical in-stock item, but you can do this even after you've made a purchase & find a lower price afterwards, usually up to 30 days)

Who makes the most money? Probably banks. You pay them money to put money into your account, they use your money to make more money, and you pay them more money to take it back out. Oh well, someone has to pay the dividends to the shareholders, may as well be you and me.
im going to try and be a kinder person. im told i have a tough outter shell.im relly not a hard person, but if you dont know me,i tend to come across that way.-so thats my plan.-billy
The only resolution I have is more of a necessity than anything else and that is to move the heck out of this falling apart, everything broke, landlord dont want to fix anything but be danged if the rent is late house that I am renting.
No resolutions, why set myself up for frustration.
Very good point. I myself have realized that very thing in past years. I also realized that if I like my life the way it is why would I want to change anything just cause its a new year.
No resolutions for me. How does that old country/western song go?
"Oh Lord it's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way" Was that Mel Tillis? It is a humorous tune, for sure.
Yep-that's my theme song.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Mac Davis. Great song.
As for resolutions, they always seem to fail. But the first of the year is a good day to start good habits. Not so much pressure if you don't call it a resolution. I plan on eating better, and exercising more.
