My 87 F150 xlt has been sitting in the driveway waiting for tomorrow when I get my sticker renewed. It flunked the etest badly in August, I put in a new ECT sensor, then came very close to passing. Put in new plugs, was going to retest, but got very p.o.'ed with the emissions test guy's attitude so I didn't go back. I drove it a bit with the 10 day permit now and then, I don't use it much anyways.
It needs rear axle seals, I'm trying to talk my nephew into doing them for me (I really hate the smell of gear oil!)
It's great to be back!!
Good work! emmissions can be an expense pain in the neck ( or lower!)
Rear axle seals aren't so bad, I just did my rear axle bearing and seal yesterday, It does smell wierd though.
Nothin' quite like the smell of heavy refined dinosaur guts.
Some folks believe that a large dose of ethanol in a small amount of gas will make the emmissions test go better.
AL.
Cowboy, just watch it with that for both you and your pal. they have really been cracking down on those places and shutting them down completely. they list all the places that they have closed on the cleanair website.
not that I have had to use it yet but from what my uncle says who is on the govt side of that clean air thing half of the names are fakes or have been closed down do to reasons other then clean air infractions they put that list up to scare people off besides even he says the clean air tests are crap and a waist of money
1987 vehicles are the last model year to be exempt from future emissions testing - From the DriveClean website - "1988 vehicles -- which require emissions tests in 2007 -- will need to be tested again in 2009 and every two years after"
So I don't have to worry about this one any more.
What got me PO'ed at the emssions tester was paying $60 for a "diagnostic analysis" I got a vague list of about 15 things that it might be. Most of the 15 things listed didn't make a whole lot of sense.
