Howdy, and happy holidays! Here's a problem every parent has had - bought a toy, looked great in the box, doesn't work worth a c___! I bought this remote control helicopter of Ebay(new in box) clames to fly 60 feet in the air. Actually flys 3 feet in the air while spinning the body around almoast as fast as the blades. Veares off really bad to the right. It has a small rear propeller that is functional also. Whole deal coast $35.00 so it's not the end of the world if nobody has any thoughts, but I figured if anyone would have any advice about this the FTE would! thanx!
I had more fun when I was a kid by tying a string around a june bugs leg and pretending he was a helecopter,.........at least I didnt waste 35 bucks on something that might cut my kids head off, gezz
I have a friend who flies those things. He says he learned how to control it by getting a program for his computer and learning that way. Very exspensive hobby if you get one of the nice ones. I just played around with the program and ended up crashing alot.
You can actually buy a device that secures the model while you learn the intricacies of a ten channel radio control unit so You don't go poor learning to hover.
This might help. I have flown RC airplanes for 9 years, and just started flying RC helicopters this last year. Let me clear up a few myths.
1. RC models, planes, helicopters, cars, etc. are toys. They are toys only in the sense that generaly, they are big boy toys. There are RC toys out there for younger kids, but they drive, and fly like toys (very limited).
2. Only small kids play with RC models. Real gas and glow powered, and todays hi-tech electric, RC models are very dangerous to use given to un-trained un-experienced hands. Generaly, RC toys are not so dangerous, but can cause a nice bruise or lump to appear on your extermities.
3. Anybody can fly a RC model right out of the box. This may be true for the models that fly 3' in the air, but a real RC model takes much time to master. It is harder to fly a real RC model that a full size airplane. I have done both.
4. Anyone can fly RC models. This one is true. But if this is the hobby for you, these facts need to be investigated. A. This is not a real cheap hobby. You can get started in RC planes for a couple of hundred bucks. It is better to learn planes then go to helicopters. B. Once you are hooked by the RC "bug" plan on a monthly budget, because you will be at the hobby store often. C. have someone who is competent in the hobby help you get started. Trying to learn on your own is very frustrating.
I have 8 flying airplanes, several that can fly with a little more work, and two helicopters. My total investment is several thousands of dollars. But it took time to accrue that inventory, about 9 years.
This is a very fun and rewarding hobby. Go to your local hobby store, and chat with the folks there. Generaly they like helping people out.
