I have a 1986 F-150 with 302 and AOD. The transmission shifts fine but seems to have some slipping under load in OD. Slight shudder and almost feels like a high speed miss except it only happens in OD. There is no indication of any slippage or miss like symptom in 3rd. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello,
Please give us a call. We can help you diagnose you trans problems, and supply you with the necessary parts to fix it.
Sounds like the OD band is worn out. A common problem on the early AODs for they use a narrow band and a small apply piston. This is why the owners manual tells you not to tow in OD. The later AOD's (AODE and 4R70W) can tow in overdrive due to an increase in band area.
You can retrofit the later band into the early tranny...problem being you must disassemble the tranny partially to do it.
