I am in the process of getting the front end of my '93 back into shape and trying to do as much as I can before taking it to the alignment shop. I know the front springs sag over time causing misaligment issues. Like almost every other F150, mine sits a little lower in the front than in the rear. Is there a way to determine the correct ride height on these things? How can I tell if my front springs have begun to give out? Thanks.
I do not know the proper hight for our trucks but I do know that the shop you are taking it to should have that info in their book as to what the range for hight is.
You can get leveling springs for these trucks that will level the front and rear out. (front will be about 1-2" higher than stock) Aftermarket springs are probably better than factory. I havn't seen a single one of these things that doesn't sag.
If interested check out skyjacker or other companies that make lift kits. It is usually the first lift option listed.
I replaced mine about a year ago and they seemed heavier duty than the old stockers. Ride is about the same (not too good).
There is a sticker in the doorjam that has the spring code. Give that code to the dealer and you will get the proper springs for your truck. I think they will cost about $80.00 & are easily replaced. After 14 yrs they need to be replaced to ensure proper alignment & tire wear.
If they have never been replaced replace them. I use coils from F350 2x4 haul better ride well. The last set i replaced old were 3"" shorter than new ones thats how much sag. And truck seemedto sit fine . The lift coils I've used them but if leafs are tired the truck ends up down in back . well good luck .
Thanks for all the info, guys. I just replaced all the ball joints and have decided the front springs are probably okay. It has the typical rake, but not excessive. Now I guess it is off to the alignment shop in a few days. Thanks again for all your ideas.
