Has any one adapted a hood latch from a newer truck or car on there truck? The latch I have is to rusty to trust. I know I have seen a latch on another type of car that was close to the same design. I just can't remimber what it was.
Used hood latches for 51-52 are pretty easy to come by in swap meets and I see one occasionally on Ebay. I'd take the easy way out and just look for another one. It has to be 51-52 though since 48-50 is different. If you like tinkering, I have heard that some VW latches can be made to work and have even seen a bear claw type latch used on occasion. There are also some generic latches made by the street rod aftermarket which can be used. I think Southern Rods and probably others have them for around $45. I believe they may be based on either a VW or Volvo latch...not sure.
I think I have an extra upper pin & spring around on another hood. Its the lower latch I am looking to replace. The one I have is rusted badly and even after soaking and cleaning it still does not move free. I just don't want have to slam the hood two or three times before it catches. I think it was a Chrysler I seen a set up that was close but an original latch would be great.
