I have an 88 f150 5.8, and last night I checked the turn signals for inspection, so today after a new fuel pump relay, a new exhaust installed, I tried the turn signals again and nothing. I checked the fuse, good... I checked for voltage to the fuse, none... What is wrong? is there a link fuse or a relay I am missing? ANd where is the relay? WHat could cause this problem? Someone please give me a direction, I have to have this on the road and inspected by the second of the year... any ideas?
the blinkers on my 86 f 150 quit on me also and what it turned out to be is the fuse, the reason it was blowing is the reverse lights and the blinkers are on the same fuse and the wiring going to the transmission was setting on the front drive shaft and was rubbing it til it finally shorted it out. check that your back up lights are working and check the wiring it may be blowing your fuse. another check my ford maual says is to check the power going to the the flasher by pulling it out and testing the female prongs up in the fuse panel, if you have power there check the wiring that is going up to the switch in the column. May be a bad switch. ALso with the blinkers on move your switch around to make sure you are getting it in the correct position after a few years they dont want to return all the way to where they should. hope this helps
Ok, multi meter says no power. All other lights work.. All of them, markers and head. Now, the reverse runs on the same fuse, they no longer light up eith. Now, I looked at the fuse panel, and no relay. The 4-ways work, so... I have to conclude that the lights are not getting any power to the switch. But does the power come from the relay, and the turn switch is a ground switch, or a positive switch. I have not driven the truck more than 30 feet since last night. They worked last night. The only electrical work I have done is changed the battery terminal connectors. Other than that, nada...
ok if the fuse is good and there is no power going to it then this is obviously is your problem. If you want to make sure just pull the fuse that controls the blinkers and back up light and insert a known hot wire in the place where the fuse would go and see if the blinkers and back up lights work. On my truck the side you would need to make hot is the one on the right but just try both sides to be sure you are energizing the right one, also when you do this if you get sparks when you insert the known hot wire then you have a short and you will have to track it down and fix it.
Will try a hot jumper. That actually is a good idea. I am an electronics tech, but I like to get ideas from others too. It just boggles my mind that it worked, then 24 later, they don't. Weird. thanks scott. Will let you know what happens...
Well, I guess I figured it out. This is weird... I got into the truck, again turned on the ignition, and they worked, then stopped... I hit the column and they worked, I deduce that the short or bad switch is in the column. Go figure, and the fuse only has power when the switch is energized.... weird night.... Anyways, I got my exhaust on, the battery is in, the new cb and other electronic gadjets are in, just got to change the brake line in the morning, then go mudding!!! Thanks again to alll who helped
