Hi. I have a 52 Ford F2 which I am modifying. I would like to relocate the gas tank and would like recommendations on what tank works best and where I can get one. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey I don't know how to relocate the tank But if you don't mind I'm trying to find brake parts for my 48 f2 I'm missing the rear brakes and all the hardware. If your ditching the rear end maybe we could work something out good luck Dennis
I have cut the rear out and other parts too, and I am looking to get rid of stuff. Give me your e-mail address and we will hook up. Quick list is the V8 Motor, Trans, rear and front end.
I put an 84 Isuzu trooper tank in the rear my 51 F-1. There was an article about this in either Classic Trucks or Custom Classic trucks a few years ago. It is an easy install and only cost $65 from a junkyard.
With all these fuel tank changeouts, are all of you having to modify the frame or are you leaving the rear structural member in place. The Musting and bronco??
LAST EDITED ON 27-Mar-01 AT 06:35 PM (EST)[p]I have a 52 that has a 20 gallon tank out of,I believe,a Fairmount or Granada,78/79?? I bought this truck with this tank already in it and I think that's what he told me. The tank unit is on the lower left side of the tank. The filler is inside the bed! this tank gives a good driving range on long trips, around 300 to 350 miles!! Almost forgot, the tank is at the rear, between the frame rails!
Thanks for all the suggestions and information. This past weekend I completed the installation using a Mid-60's Mustang tank in the truck. I used the following for instructions:
It worked like a dream. Only thing the article didn't mention was that I needed to grind a hair off the frame rails to make it fit. Other than that, it was easy.
I used the original sender and pieces from an 87 T-bird sender to get the correct ohms to match the 87 Ranger cluster I put in.The tank unit is held in by a twist in metal ring. I am going to change the gauges to the new Dolphin speedo and 4 in 1 41/2 set that fits in the orignal dash holes,so I will probably have to change the sender again!
