Hello Everyone! (2003 E350 / 7.3 PSD)

December 30, 2006

Hello Everyone!

At the risk of being the odd-man out at, "Ford Truck Enthusiasts", here I am with a 2003 E350 Ford Extended Super-Duty Cargo Van with a 7.3 PSD. Nice to be here, and... I always take time to reply to anyone who sends me an e-mail!
While I've driven big trucks for years, the company always did (and paid-for) the maintenance. Now that I actually own a diesel, I hoping to fine-tune my mechanical skills and keep the truck high-way fit.
Ala "truck-style", I keep a log-book and record all work that is done. As well as that, I track all fuel-ups / MPG, part numbers and costs. My loose-leaf binder also contains copies of all the certificates such as E-test Results, Safety Standards certificate, Insurance Policy, Truck Ownership, Trailer Ownership etc.
At one time, I used to just record maintenance, one-item-after-another. The problem I found with that method, was that it was difficult to find a particular part, without having to re-read the entire record. Now I use a page for every item, which at the moment has risen to 48 headings. As an example, If I want to know when I last replaced the disk-brake pads or rotors, I check my numbered-index under "Brakes". Then I go to that page, and all of the relevant info is there!
Of course I don't want to sound too smart. If I have finally figured out one thing that actually works, it's because... I tried ten other ideas that didn't!

All the best for 2007!
John, aka "sendacheck"

Thank you for the warm welcome Morris! At my age, I think I may be handier with trucks... than I am with computers! I appreciate the handy links too, and now that I am starting to get the picture, I think I misplaced myself by getting in with the F-Series trucks, when I have an E350! I guess I was thinking that I was the only guy that had a van!
Much appreciated!
John

Thank you Matt!

It sure makes things easier to receive a few pointers, especially when looking at unfamiliar pages. I will definately take a look at the FTE Ontario chapter too! Having said that, I also like to follow our good American friends when it comes to truck stuff. It seems that a lot of products originate in the US, and are often found on the market before Ontario has heard anything about it!
Since you're a Sarnian too, J's Performance (519-337-6673) at 2264 Lasalle Line (west of Brigden Sideroad) is specializing in stainless-steel truck exhausts. They have SS pipe up to five inches in diameter, and weld all joints instead of using any clamps. Their pipe hangers are stainless too, and they also have specialty hydraulic equipment to custom bend pipe. I was out there last week and I was looking at a 5 inch polished stainless steel tip! Just to clarify, I'm not paid to sell their stuff. I just thought I would mention them to you, in case you haven't heard about the place and wanted to put a five-inch pipe on that Ford Focus!
I appreciate you taking time to say hello, and... sending the handy tip too!
Best Regards,
John

P.S. If you see my Ford Focus around honk and wave. There is a picture in my gallery (you can access it by clicking on my username). You will know it's me because there is a Ford-trucks.com sticker on the back.
