In May 2004 I received my ordered E-350 Super Duty Van. I ordered the 6.0 diesel with new 5 speed tranny and limited slip 3:55 rear. I ordered the Chateau model with leather and the works. I traded in a 1997 custom Ford with 5.4 ltr V8. Last June I took the 1997 van and a 20 ft trailer weighing a total of 15,830 and went from SE. PA to Oregon. I worked the tail off the van. I got 7.5 mpg and it didn't like Donner Pass. I had 125,000 miles on it and decided to trade it in for a new van with the diesel.
Man what a great choice I made. With 897 miles on it I hooked up my new 24 foot utility trailer and went on a 2400 mile trip to OH and MI. Total weight 16,540. (truck scale). I put it in cruise at 70 and it went up and down the PA mountains like they were flat. I was amazed. I averaged 11.8 mpg on it. Noise inside is negligible. It gets better than 15 mpg around town. 5.4 1997 gasser got about 9-10.
When I ordered the van there wasn't one in the country with a diesel engine. Not many vans with the new 6.0 diesel. Ford told me they didn't put this diesel in vans until November 2003.
Anyone out there have one?? Is there any way to improve on it with a module. I've heard you can beef these up a bit but a little relunctant to mess with it under warrantee.

Howdy and congrats on the new van. It sounds really nice. I wasn't aware that they put a diesel in a van, but heyy...what do I know, eh?

Thanks for your reply. I was told by a friend about the site and the chips. I decided to sign up on the list. You can never get to much information.
My main hobby is in the live steam locomotive and 1&1/2 inch scale trains. I am on several lists there. The information passed around on the net can be super. The persons met are many and rewarding.
