Good Evening everyone-Guess what? I have successfully bid on, won and now have in my possession the highly sought after an coveted "Tilt Out Vent Windows" (glass right behind the windshield)--hurray!!! I have been looking for these bad boys for ever and a day. I just got them in the mail this afternoon. I actually went as far as buying a 1986 Aero ($125.00 who cares)for them off of E-Bay. When the Aerostar's were new to the market a customizing van company bought 200 of the vans and thoroughly went through and customized them. This was one of their items. I contacted whom I believed to be at the time the company that made them back in this Spring and I asked if I could possibly get a set some how, but was told that they had been discontinued. I asked again for the original plans or a picture with dimensions on them and never got a reply back (rude). I was lucky enough to originally have a pair back in the 90's but alas the van was sold and I never found them again until NOW!
My plan is to take the original patern and make them. Yes I know about the patent laws and will check again for my safety, but if everything is good to go WHAM-I'll be making them and making them better and different too. In any case I will change it up just enough for my protection. Since I am in the earliest stages of this endevour I will be taking measurements and seeing how much of the original glass and framing I can retain to make this easier to complete. Well, thats about it. I just wanted to share my joy with everyone. I can take pics of this original set so everyone can see. I will then start measuring and taking notes. I am a Jet Engine mechanic in the Air Force and created a patent for shoot guns when I was 14. This will be cake for me.-----"HAPPY HOLIDAYS"----Boz
With your brains and my ideas we need to build and market a hybrid kit to convert cars already made into gas saving hybrids..........There are millions to be made!
Cool fair lane man. Just as long as they have vent windows like my Aero will have. When the compressors kick out we can always depend on Mother Nature to blow a cold wind into our space ships, but the trick is to be traveling at least mach 1. anything under 626 miles an hour just won't do in my book. It also helps to remove your hat. --hApPy DaYs p.s. "Beam me up Scotty!
"On second thought I think you are already into "space and time travel' and dont need a hybrid"
Thats okay, but instead of it being a "second thought" with me Aero's are my "first thought!"
SPACE?-----ton's of cubic feet and cargo room
TIME?-------time waits for no man, but Aero's are forever
TRAVEL?-----my van will run forever because of the fine folks here+you
DON'T FORGET?-----This is the Aerostar section. If you want hybrids go to another post. I hope you know I'm just playin' with you? Don't be a player Hater and I'll definetly put you on next year's X-mas list for a new pair of tilt windows(the first set I make).-----smile we love ya
Going off-topic here, but one of the requirements of a hybrid vehicle is the space to hold the equipment required to support the secondary drive system. Now what kind of car is known for having a lot of space...
