This is the first time, when I have problem with heater core. One hose is hot, the other is not. Coolant level is OK. How to flush it correctly? Can I use compressed air?
I would reverse flow flush it out carefully with a garden hose. I had this problem in Alaska a few years ago and did some good with the rv water system pump. I was never able to completely clean it out though. You must be careful because the garden hose can produce more pressure than the core is designed for.
I think you will see quite a bit of debris flow out of the unit. Always use distilled water in the radiator, I believe this keeps clogging to a minimum.
Make sure the water level is full. The Areostar heater is quite high compared to the rest of the cooling system. If your water level is low, the heater code runs partially dry, and no heat.
I have new thermostat. But coolant streem of heating core goes not throught the thermostat. Radiator is cold, it is hot inside, and when I put the blower to hight on "vent" regime temp. gauge drops. ECT read 75-80 dgr C, not the usual 90-95.
The heater core is just a radiator, not controlled by the thermostat. It is possible that if the engine is not working with a load, the heater core is taking care of all the cooling needs of the engine.
