I just bought a 59 F250 4x4. It appears to be original. The serial # and the frame # match BUT!!! The # is for a 2WD truck. Where the model # should be between the color code and the trans code there is some #'s but it does not say model on the tag. The #'s are F28C. I'm thinking this is a 4wd option add on by Ford. Also the axle # is B 04, What's the ratio. GVW is 7400, 292-2V @ 158 HP @ 4000 RPM. Last but not least. In the lower right corner where it say's DSO (what does that mean) is a # 4199? TIA

LAST EDITED ON 21-Apr-01 AT 10:07 PM (EST)[p]Fordman, F28C is the model number. According to my '59 Ford Truck Parts and accessories manual, it represents F-250 Conventional four wheel drive (factory installed). You have a Spicer (Dana) 44-4F front axle, and a Spicer (Dana) 60 rear axle. Your ratio is 4.56:1. DSO (District Special order) means it was either a fleet vehicle, or one of a quantity of similarly ordered vehicles for a dealership (I believe around the Chicago area). Hope this helps.

This truck appears to be original as the red paint is completely faded evenly all over the truck with army green brushed over it. What I don't understand is it has a 59 hood and a 60 grille. Is this one of those built in 60 but actually a 59? If that is so why is the grille and hood different. Not that it matters cause I'm switching to a 58 front clip. Anybody got an extra tailgate?

Fordman, It would actually be the other way around. Your truck could be a '60 model which was actually built and titled in '59 as a 1959. Could also be that someone changed the grille over the years. Your Vin number will solve that mystery. The 5th character of your Vin denotes the model year. 9 = 1959 model year, and 0 = 1960 model year. My books don't mention if it was limited slip, locker, or open. I believe they were all limited slip back then. There is also no mention of the model # for the transfer case, but you and I have the Spicer 24 (same for all '59-'60 factory 4x4's). The 1959 shop manual is available here on this website's online store. The '59 parts and accessories catalog, and '59 4wd service manual I got from E-bay. Would love to see a picture of your truck! Please let me know what you find out on your model year.

Kenny it's a 59. F25C9K39747 I also have a frame with complete running gear but no body. It's a 59 F250 4x4. F25C9K29782 I tried to send a picture but I'm not good at it. Send me your personel e-mail and I'll try again if that is ok. The complete truck did not have a trans case in it, but the frame and running gear wo/body did have the dana 24 in it.
