front differential?

I own an 89' f150 4x4. I was wondering if the front differential was limited-slip or locked for 4wd hi and low. Thanks

If you are talking factory, only the limited-slip was available for the front as an option. So yours may be LS or may be open. To tell, put the truck in 4wd and in park (if auto) or in gear (if manual) to lock the front driveshaft, jack up the front and turn one tire. If the other one turns the same direction, it is LS. If it turns the opposite direction, it is open.

There should also be a metal tag hanging off one of the diff mounting bolts. Stamped on this tag are the gear ratios and diff type. 3 55 is open, 3L55 is limited slip.

99.99% of the time, the front diff is open. Front limited slips from the factory are extremely rare.
