You can go all over FTE and find reference and threads dealing with tuners, is it good, is it bad, what should we do. The ironey of this whole subject came to my mail box about 2 weeks before Christmas. It was from my Ford Fleet Sales Manager and it was a Ford catalog on all kinds of mods for every Ford truck built. Included K&N filters, Superchips, Bulldog tuners, you name it it was there. So because of this magazine I find it all so funny that Ford doesn't want you to tune your 6.0 ltr but yet they will sell you what ever you need to do it.
Performance parts is a multi-billion dollar a year business. Anytime you have that much money in a sector of the market, everyone is going to try to get their little piece of the proverbial pie.
With that to the side, Ford does not really care whether you mod your car/truck. After all, it is your vehicle. What they do care about are warranty repairs, as that has a direct impact on their bottom line. To that end, why should Ford foot the bill if a modification, or combination of modifications, is responsible for the failure of an OEM component?
I'm sure it was from the dealer. They can make money selling those parts just as easily as the next guy, maybe they're just fishing for more sales. I'd imagine that if it were from Ford, it would be a "Motorsport" book.
That is kind of lame now that I think about it. Why would a Ford dealership sell products that they know will void warranties. I think that is a little underhanded that they would do that just for money.

A good percentage of the parts you would find in a Ford Motorsport catalogue will void your warranty too... It all depends on the buyer.
Our dealer sells the works also, lift kits, tuners, exhaust systems etc. I would imagine that if someone had some pictures of the shop foreman w/some farm animals, your warranty would never be voided !!! Its just another money grab. Worked for me though. Thats where most of my aftermarket goodies came from.
I would buy from the dealer if they carried the type of performance parts I wanted and only if they warranteed it. If they sell them without warranty then I would not even think of buying from a dealer. Dealer's can be thieves, but there are a few goods out there. I don't mind paying good money for something as long as I get the service and quality I want.
I think the case may be similar to my local Harley Davidson dealer. If you pay them to put on the part, weather at the initial sale or later, they will stand by it. If you put it on yourself, or have someone else do it, they don't even want to touch it.
If it makes money for them, why not. I can see the tuner thing getting out of hand though, so maybe that just applies to other things????
Not sure either way, so I'll just wait until my warrany is up before I really start messing with anything.
