Hi all I hope I can get some help on this one Im stuck. I have a 93 Taurus with a 3.8 and will start fine. BUT once it heats up it won’t fire until cool. This can take several hours in our area during summer. I have good fuel pressure and I see a spark. ??? Hope some on has had this before.
Sounds like it could be something electrical. Does it run fine until shut off and then won't start or does it die and then won't start? Does the CEL come on?
You said it has spark, did you mean while it's hot and won't start?
The car starts and runs fine untill you shut it off. One you shut it off it just turns over untill its cool then starts. There is no CEL and there is spark and also there is fuel presure. 30 psi. A frend thought it was a fuel pump problum but I not shure and i dont want to replace it then not be it. Its a big job. Thanks
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge you can use to test it? If you do run the car until warmed up (check the pressure before turning it off). Turn it off and see what pressure you'r getting while trying to start it again. You may even want to unhook the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator (plug the vacuum line so there is no vacuum leaks), that should raise the pressure about another 10 psi. Try starting it with the vacuum line disconnected and see if that helps. Do you have a manual for your car that would tell you what the fuel pressure requirements are?
How are you checking for spark? Are you using a spark plug or a spark tester? There can be different results. I have had vehicles that would get a spark with a spark plug but not with a tester.
