I've been able to get my hands on replacement glass for the driver's side door on my 56, however, how do I remove the old glass from the glass channel. The setting tape is holding it pretty good. Thanks
Hi, I watched the local glass guy while he was cutting a new door glass for my '59. Man, that setting tape (it was rubber at one time) really gets hard! Anyway, I had given him my old broken window with the channel still on it as a template. As I watched, The guy took a block of wood and tapped it with a mallet from end to end until it came off.
Putting the channel onto the new window, He folded a new piece of setting tape over the edge of the window, then tapped on the channel with a wooden block, and a mallet until it was seated. I hope this helps.
Kenny
I have a 55 I know the windows are different but here is what I did.
I took all out the screws holding the track in, the edges of the door, in the door panel and wherever they could be found. This allowed me to spereate the window from the channel and drop it to the inside of the door. Then I was able to slide it out the bottom door panel. I removed and replaced both my windows this way with industrial safety glass.
