Ok, I found a truck (or at least a body) in a junkyard. The guy that owns it says it is either a 55 or a 56. It says F-100 on the hood. However, it looks very much like a 1-ton. I though that all F-100's were 1/2 tons. SO what I want to know is this: Is this a stock truck or is this something someone made? Also, will the body fit on my F-100? Thanks ya'll.
Go to the FTE picture gallery and you should be able to tell whether it is a '55 or '56. The simple way to tell is that a '56 has a wrap around windshield with a vertical "A" pillar.
Re: F100's, yes, they are all 1/2 ton's. However, hood emblems can be changed and hoods can be changed as well. The emblem is different between '55 and '56.
Ditto on everything Tim said. Just out of pure curiosity though, I'm wondering what it was that gave the appearance of a 1 ton? Did it have 8 lugs, or an 8' bed, or something?

Something about that truck just bothers me. I have a 1976 F-100, which is NOT a small truck, and this truck just straight up makes it look puny. The more I think about it, the more I think that the 56 cab on it is NOT stock. I think someone put another cab on it because it has 1 ton rims, a flatbed, and duel tires on the back. It's a bad-a$$ looking truck and if it had an engine, I would probably fix it up. But I think just swapping bodies will be a whole lot less headaches.
What I thought about doing is taking the 360 big block out of my 76 and dropping it the 56 (besides, I have a small leak around the rear main seal that I've been meanin' to fix any ways). Think it will fit?
If it has dual wheels it is at least a one ton. Does it have 6 lug nuts on each wheel? Are the wheel sizes 16"? I have a '55 F350, which is a one ton truck. The rear has dual wheels that are 16" in diameter. Any wheels larger than that means that it is a heavier (or larger) truck, such as a 450, 550, etc. I agree that they are cool. Mine is only a cab and chassis but I am working on it now. The 3/4 tons has single rear wheels with 8 lug nuts.
