Best Bang for Your Buck Batteries...Recommendations??

My 1999 PSD has what I think are the original old Ford Motorcraft batteries and they just won't hold a charge for long any more. I'll be replacing them in the spring when we start to using the truck to pull the 5th wheel.

Considering we have to buy TWO batteries for our PSDs, I'm wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for the most "bang for my buck" batteries. We're in Eastern Washington, so cold weather starting is a big factor. Plus, since we have to buy two, I'd like to get some that are long-lived.

Thanks!!!

Seems like every time I ask this question, I get the same answer...buy anything originally manufactured by Johnson Controls. Several different brands use them but the best deals are usualy generic Wally World batteries.

Happy New Year!

Thanks!!! I didn't think of going to Consumer Reports and I even have an online account!!

I just went there and they had an Oct. 06 review online. They rated the NAPA 84 Select 8465 as the best for pickup trucks for $80. Second best, they like the Duralast 65DL as their "Best Buy" for $60. But, these two were recommended for warm climates.

For cold climates, they listed these recommendations...
Best for Pickups in cold climates:
EverStart $60
AC Delco $90
NAPA $70

I don't see the Autozone Gold Top listed in this Oct. 06 review. Where did you see that, wlihnt??

i just bought new batteries a couple months ago and did alot of reading on which ones other members thought were good. Walmart kept coming up highly recommended so i went and bought two. They were around 60 bucks a piece and so far have been a great battery, i live in wisconsin so cold weather starting is an issue for me also. Another plus to them is that walmart is everywhere and they have a 3 year replacement warrenty and then alot longer(can't remember exactly how many years) pro-rated warrenty so if they would go bad and your on the road, chances are there will be a walmart somewhere close.

Walmart is probably the best bang for buck. When I did mine LesSchwab had a sale going on that I bought two from them, Xtreme Duties, I think 950 CCA each. This is the 3rd winter for them and no complaints at all. At the time they were 70 a piece.

Mine are WallyWorld everstarts. $62 a piece. BTW, the newer models for our trucks are now rated at 1000CAs and 850CCAs IIRC.

the best battery without fail is the optima. i've had them last ten years and i live in phoenix- you show me any other battery on the planet that can do that then i will stand corrected, but people are always looking for the cheapest not the best value. if u buy them from costco there only about $120 a piece, but if you buy from auto stores there pushing $200.

Ease of replacemen in case of premature failure was another reason I went with the Walmart battery. With a Walmart in nearly every arm pit of the country, it would not be difficult to have one warrantied wherever you are. And, since I was traveling a lot during the summer, that was important to me.
