2.0 Swap

I am currently in the process of building a 1986 Ranger 2wd. I am planning on swaping out the tired old 2.0 motor. I have access to both a 2.9 V6 out of an 87 ranger, and a 2.3 out of an 89 ranger. However, both are fuel injected and my 2.0 is carb'd. My only question is will the wiring harness coming out of the cab through the firewall on my 86 2.0 connect to either of these motors without having to rewire?

The 2.3l will be the easiest. You'll have to swap the harness from the doner in it's entirety, but since the cabs are similar you should feasibly be able to hook up to existing components without too much trouble, I think. The 2.3l will hook directly to the existing transmission and engine mounts, unlike the 2.9l, making that part of the swap easier. You could also try to find a carbureted 2.3l out of an '83-(early)'85, it would be essentially a direct bolt-in. I don't know where you're located, but I can get a good 2.3l out of an '84 for $100, just to throw it out there.
