Looking for someone that knows how to bypass the coolant going into the egr cooler. I bought a downpipe with egr delete pipe. I want to stop using it completely.
There's an easy way and a hard way. How do you want it?
Easy way:
Contact this company: LIBERATOR PERFORMANCE
Phone Number: 717.249.4001
Email: liberatordiesel@earthlink.net
Customer Service
Phone Number: 717.249.9363
Tell them that Todd Ray (6L PWR) sent you to them. Tell them you just want to buy the coolant by-pass and bracket for the EGR since you modified your own up pipe.
Hard way:
I've seen instructions on how to cut the EGR cooler apart to get both ends and create your own bypass, but I did it the easy way!!
The full Liberator Kit came with two block off plates. One for the intake side of the EGR and one for the exhaust up-pipe side. I didn't use the exhaust side as I had a machine shop cut the scoop out and patch the pipe.
Then it comes with a coolant bypass pipe. Once you take out the EGR cooler, it has a pipe that bolts in with a bracket and reroutes the coolant. It also comes with a new intake gasket.
It's not too hard, but you do have to take quite a bit off the top endof the engine to get to everything. I'll try to find some pics.
Alrighty. When most of this part was being done, I was at work so I don't have any really good after shots.
First pic shows the EGR cooler still in the valley. I circled the coolant in and out points. Alot of guys have a shop cut the EGR cooler apart and make their own bypass, but I didn't want to take the time nor risk that it might leak or come apart so I went with the Liberator Performance kit.
EDIT:The kit also came with a plate to block off where the EGR went up to the EGR Valve. I did use this plate. You can see the hole that needs blocked off to the right of the other circled ports.
ANOTHER EDIT: Ok, you can't see the hole that needs blocked off, but you can see where the EGR cooler goes up and into the intake where it needs blocked off at the intake. DOH! lol
Second pic shows the EGR cooler on the floor so you can better see what needs bypassed when it's removed.
Third pic shows the exhaust from the manifolds to the Y-pipe with the EGR port circled. This pipe can either be modified by a shop, which I recommend since there is a scoop dipped into the pipe that takes away from the flow, or the kit comes with a plate you can just clamp into place over the hole.
This picture shows the point at which you look at the empty hole in the front of the truck, then at the engine, then at the checkbook balance and then back at your buddy with that look of sheer terror because you know it's going to cost more than originally thought!!
THIS is what is meant by PMS! Powerstroke Mod Sydrome!! But it sure is fun when it's all put back together!!
Less puking, less EGT's, better exaust flow. You dont have to remove it. I have my egr valve unplugged right now. Just want to get rid of the whole deal.
