1986 F150 302 EFI tune-up

Gentlemen,
you were a huge help on my first post. i am wanting to do a tune-up and quite frankly what all can i change out and do myself. i just bought this a little over a month ago. so this is all new to me. i bought an air filter and installed it. i also bought a fuel filter but not sure where it goes and a pcv valve. is there a rotor and points that need replacing too? plugs and wires? and changing the oil and oil filter. the truck has 132000 miles on it. should i use 10w-30 or a different weight? also should i consider changing over to synthetic or leave it be? thanks in advance for any help. i really like doing the work myself. its great to learn and jump in head (sometimes feet) first. i just fixed the door hinge for the defrost and floor to work. the info you guys gave me was dead on. even telling me which dash screws to remove and not move. i am so glad i found this forum.

thanks,

i also bought a fuel filter but not sure where it goes

Along the frame rail under the cab I'm pretty sure.

and a pcv valve.

check passenger valve cover

is there a rotor and points that need replacing too?

No, But check all contact points on the distributor

plugs and wires?

Yes, check test and replace if bad

and changing the oil and oil filter. the truck has 132000 miles on it. should i use 10w-30 or a different weight?

10w-30w is fine

also should i consider changing over to synthetic or leave it be?

Leave it now, it would only be a waste of money.
Syn oil is best for new engines or recently rebuilt

I'm Glad FTE is working out for you

PCV is on the passenger side at the back under the plenum and the hose connects to a nipple on the back side of the plenum - probably have to do a good bit of this by feel.

No points, but there is a rotor on this model - I'd change it and the dist cap.

I agree with Dennis on the rest.

install some basic autolite or motorcraft copper plugs. if the wires look original, install some ford 9mm wires. be sure to route them nicely keeping each from touching or crossing. of course cap/rotor and bump the timing up to 12*btdc with spout connector removed. Wix or purolator are good filters, just stay clear of FRAM.

also check all vacum lines, if any are cracked replace with rubber lines is fine.
