i justed removed my rear bumper on my 85 f350, it has a hd drop down bumper. it was broke off the frame at the dump awhile ago. after looking at it closer, it seems to have been installed wrong. it looks like their is an ear on each side that should bolt right to the frame. instead their was a piece of c shaped steel welded to the ear that fit inside the frame and welded to it. the bumper has a receiver on the bottom of it, similar to a reese setup. that looks like the bumper came with it, but the back of it had a brace welded to a crossmember installed between the frame rails, this was all that was holding it on the truck once it broke. their isn't any damage to the bumper though. are the ears the correct way to mount this bumper, if so what would its capacity be?
oddly no. My truck has the heavy duty drop bumper as well and there are no specs listed anywhere on the bumper. My bumper is secured by a metal bracket on each side that bolts to the outside of the framerails. I still think you would be better off getting a hitch instead of relying on the bumper. I put on a hitch on my truck because I couldn't find the bumper specs, and I needed the adjustability of a stinger.
