AC removal

Hi guys,

im a green horn, got my truck from my dad which he got from his.Ive been around it and working on this thing my whole lif e(17 years) but i dont know every thing.Im looking to remove the remnants of my AC unit.

I have a 73 ranger body mounted on a 79 chasis. Is a 4x4, f350. 351m.

now, as told to me, the ac unit from the 79 doesnt work with whatever i have for the 73.I know nothing about AC except theres this big hunk of metal with a pulley on it , mounted in the front of the engine compartment.Doesnt need to be there as far as im concerned.

so , Any suggestions or shematics of the ac unit.
i would ask my dad but he just has sooo many other projects with his truck and other toys.

thanks-Pete

any 1 know where i can find some pics. of the 351m

Sorry I haven't replied.

Yes the compressor and all the idler pulleys can be removed.

I don't think the Power steering bracket wil be affected.

BTW, that compressor is quite heavy.....so don't drop it

you have to put the A/C pump bracket back on since the top left corner of the P/S pump is supported by it (mine was) plus you have to put the bolts back in the heads or they will leak oil. there are 3 bolts holding the mounting bracket on. pretty sure i had to remove the entire bracket to get the a/c off.

He could also get an non-A/C PS bracket instead.....They are real cheap and plentiful.

There shouldn't be any leaks out of bracketry holes

i dunno it seemed like the left side bolt had oil on the threads so i assumed it was supposed to go back. guess i was wrong ehh?

but i plan on adding a msd box so i could mount it there instead of on the fender it would be out of the way of everything including heat
