I didn't find anything when I searched, but does anyone know if Ford actually upgraded anything when they increased the tow rating on the 07 F-150s by 600 lbs? I remember reading that they upgraded the rear suspension one year during Lightning production to increase to the towing/payload ratings.
I thought I read somewhere on the ford website specs that they are now offering a 4:10 rear on the F150's with a tow package where before you could only get the 3:73, anyone else know for sure.?
Not sure about any upgrades, but the 4.10 gears have been available since 04. They are only available with the 7700 package as far as I know. I think the tow rating on the base F150 is somewhere in the 10,500 neighborhood now.

That's the tow rating on a regular cab, 4x2 with the payload package. 4.10 gearing is only available with the payload package.
SuperCrews are still stuck with 3.73 gears max, which is ridiculous. A 4.6 liter supercrew with a 150" wheelbase can only tow 6200 lbs, less than a stinking Toyota Tacoma with a V6 engine (rated at 6500 lbs).
That towing guide does help a little bit. We'd have to compare those numbers against the 05 or 06 towing guide to see if the HD towing package rating on that 4x2 was the only number that was increased or a bunch of the numbers went up some. My bet is just that one number went up, so Ford could continue to brag about the highest tow rating in class.
I know the 06' SuperCrew FX4 150"WB 4x4 that I have is rated at 9200lbs. That is incredible to me with a 1/2 ton truck.
Wedge- are you sure you have the 150.5" WB? The 138.5" WB SCrew goes up to 9200, but according to the '06 owner's manual on pg. 196 the 5.4L Crew Cab with 150.5" WB, 17" tires, and 3.73 gears maxes out at 9100, which is the highest rating for that WB.
Not picking nits, just curious if there were mid-year changes or something...

That's true- for a 2WD w/18" wheels.
With 17" wheels it jumps to 6700 lbs, which exceeds the Tacoma.
And I can tell you from personal experience- where an F-150 will handle such a load with authority, you don't want to tow 6500 lbs. with a V6 Tacoma. I used to pull a quad trailer with 3 big ATV's on it that weighed in at 3500-4000 lbs. fully loaded. We pulled it with a '03 Tacoma ext cab V6 4x4 and it was a nightmare- whiteknuckle handling, zero power, and the truck was obviously laboring to pull and stop the load. 2000 lbs. or less would be the max I would ever pull with the Tacoma, and then only for short trips. A quick glance underneath at each vehicle's running gear, brakes, chassis, etc. will tell you immediately which truck will perform better and last longer pulling a load.
Personal experience taught me that the Tacoma is not a work truck of any substance- regardless of what kind of numbers their marketing department chooses to stamp on it for towing capacity.
Just because they say it'll do it doesn't mean you'll want to do it...

My manual states the 9200 with 18" Wheels on this setup. My brother has a 04' FX4 138"WB and his is 9400 or 9600 with 18" wheels. I bought my truck in July and has a build date of May 06' so I am not sure if there were any changes but I would doubt it.
My 06 F150 KR with the 5.4 and 3:73 Screw 5.5 bed is rated for up to 9200lbs. I can tell you from experience I have a 22' Grady White boat that weighs 6000lbs when loaded, the truck tows it without effort whether I'm pulling up a ramp, passing or braking this truck really does a nice job. I really think I need a bigger boat now.

I agree, I tow my boat without any problems to, 6500lbs full and loaded up. See mine in my gallery.
