Well, tonight I replaced my return lines. The good new is it didn't take me very long and they no longer leak. I also replaced the fuel filter while I was in there. I had to do a quick search on FTE to figure out how to get the thing to fire up after swapping the filter, and all was well again, almost.
My #6 injector line now leaks. Yay! I just ordered a new one from MWFI tonight, with UPS next day air it cost me $92! Zoiks! Good thing for empty credit cards!
The leak was squirting fuel up onto the firewall and wiper motor so I wrapped a bead of butyl tape around the line about an inch up from the connector, then wrapped a piece of split loom around the butyl tape that hangs down to the bottom of the injector. To keep this contraption from moving I put a zip tie around it. Hopefully this can keep the fuel from spraying everywhere for a couple days. This is my only form of transportation right now so it is a bit important.
I didn't look too closely at the IP, will I need a crows foot to get the #6 line off? If so, what size?
I'm not sure where #6 is on the injection pump but if it is on the bottom, you may need to remove one or more of the others to gain access to it.
Be sure to replace ALL the clamps you have had to remove and the lines are already bent to fit so if you find you have to bend one to make it fit, you have the wrong part.
I use an open end wrench, I think it's 16mm but am not sure, i'm home and the motor's at work.
you can re use the original clamps. make sure they are in the same place and have the rubber insert in them. if the injection lines are allowed to move, they will all crack.
the clamps should be a "spring-tension" type as people tend to over tighten the "worm gear" type and crack/distort the plastic returns on the injectors. This "spring" clamp tends to weaken over time and usage or just not fit properly on the new line. did you get a return line kit? they usualy come with the nessasary clamps, injector return tubes and o-rings as well as the fuel line itself. hope this helps
i thot he was talking about the clamps that hold the injection fuel lines in place. i would naturally replace the jumper line clamps because they come with the kit and i also would naturally surmise a new clamp would be tighter fit.
I was refering to the clamps w/rubber inserts that tie two injection lines together to keep them from vibrating too much, without them the lines will break at the nuts.
The #6 injection line is at the top of the pump and can be replaced without removing any other lines, a 16mm open end wrench will do the job.
Thanks guys! I didn't get the Email from UPS saying they had a shipment for me, like the last time time I ordered something from MWFI. Hopefully they shipped the line today. if not I will call them tomorrow and see whats up. I really need it fixed as it is the only car I can move my daughter around in (my Mustang is NOT suitable for a 2 month old)
