Watch those starters

Couple of weeks ago I noticed the starter was making a noise different from normal. Nothing major and had to really listen to hear what sounded like a skip when it spun the engine. Crawled under to take a look last week and found the bottom bolt backed out a quarter inch and the top bolt took two full turns to tighten. 93,000 miles and never been touched. I felt like I dodged a major bullet that time. This week its the two O rings on the fuel filter thats leaking that will be tackled.

Happened to me earlier this year with 150K, had to replace the starter. I used lock-tite, it won't happen again!

I also had to replace a starter because of loose bolts. everyone should pull their bolts and use Red Loc-tite on them

I think red lock tight might be a little over-kill. You'll never get them off again if you need to without applying a lot of heat. I would use blue.
Either that or snug the bolts down as a routine procedure every time you change the oil.
And since the truck is sitting across the street right now, I think I'll just bring it in and check.

I read this post yesterday and last night my started was making funny noises. Checked them just now and the bolts were atleast 2 full turns loose. GOOD POST !! Saved my starter and a big headache when it would have given up.
