Here's a pic of our 1997 F-250 PSD brush truck...Was bought used from Teel's Trucks in Hays. It's an XLT PL, PW, Tilt Cruise whole bit...get's cleaned and waxed alot!
I'm with Jack on the good looking truck. I also agree on the cleaning and waxing. Actually I have an '01 PSD that is red and you guys could clean it up and make it look purty and even pretend it was one of the fire trucks while you are doing it. lol
Thanks guys! We are really proud of that truck. It is the only diesel we have in the fleet of brush trucks, and we keep it cleaned up! It is also the only one with A/C, Power locks and windows, cloth seats and carpet! It takes alot of work to keep the seats and carpet clean! We have another Ford in the fleet, and I will try to take pics of it for you too.
This thing runs real good, have been clocked at 107 by a trooper responding to a call! (there was an *** eating involved so I know what the radar said) I would like to change the shift points some though, it shift real early and doesnt let the turbo spool up, it has about 143k on it.
Tony can definatly tweek the shift points. Since its a brush truck and will be out in lots of dust and crap, id suggest ditching the stock filter box for a tymar style filter.
Yes, 3.55 gears....not the best for crawling hills, but it does really good. We had the air cleaner housing replaced last year there was an update that hadnt been done so they replaced it. We do have a K&N on it, and some talk about removing muffler and running straights on it has surfaced lately. We have screened up the radiator and it gets hosed out after any run where we are deep in the soot, so we try to keep everything as clean as possible.
We are lucky that we dont run a real high call volume on grass fires, alot of wrecks and some hazmat calls where that truck is first out also...on the front fender we have "BUSHTON 268" but we want to put "QUICK ATTACK" under that.
I was driving the day we visited with mr Trooper about our response, and I am pretty sure that it will run better than 107, it is pretty smooth that fast, We are all worried about the tires that are on it, so we try not to push it too fast, we are hoping to replace the tires this year with something we trust a little more, but again, they wont be speed rated either!
I will have to give him a call about that chip, horse power isnt really the issue, but keeping it spooled up will definately help, it just bogs down real hard under WOT when it shifts...and lets face it it gets alot of WOT!
I know its not a PSD, but this is the response brother to our brush truck, just thought you might like to see it....I will also post our other Ford in the station...
Dude, just my opinion here but ditch that K&N NOW!! They have claimed the life of many PSD's, they just don't seal well and alow dust to pass into the motor. Ford actually has a Heavy service filter box they sell that is REALLY good for a truck with modest power.
I believe that is what was put on the truck the heavy service air box...I know the older one you could even see where the dirt was getting past the filter....the k&N was put in that box...
I have kept track of it and we do preventive checks all the time on this one...
I don't know how they fair with a K&N in the HS box, chances are it will be just fine. For some reason K&N just couldn't make a fitler that fit right in the stock box.
