I bought something from eBay and I sent seller a money order. However, he claimes that he never got money order from me.
If I go to the post office where I bought money order and show them receipt of money order, can they see if that money order was cashed? My other questions is, if I have a receipt (which I do), do post office offer a refund?
did you get the purchased item? If so the money order should have been sent registered mail. if not once it is invalidated, you can just send another one but dont be in a hurry , you have to be sure the guy doesnt get paid twice, this is a common scam used on ebay
Yes they keep track of all money orders with the personsname on it. that's why the Post Office is the best.
Once it is cashed it goes into the system and back to the post office.
There has to be a record made when its cashed..check with the place where you bought it, Beware the old "I didnt get the money order" scam is used often.
^^^ That is mail fraud and the Postal laws have real teeth to them. Report it to the Postmaster.
It took several weeks for one ebay seller to "find" my money order. I think they went to the post office once a month and I missed their last trip by a few days. That was a royal pain.
From the USPS website:
Replacement of Lost or Stolen Money Orders
To replace a lost or stolen money order, a customer will need to fill our Form 6401 at a Post office and pay a fee of $3.15. After the USPS completes a payment inquiry on the status of the money order, a replacement can be issued.
There is NO STOP PAYMENT process for money orders. Additionally, they cannot be tracked or traced within the mailstream.
To find out if a money order has been cashed, or to request a copy of the cashed money order, file a claim or file an inquiry into a (domestic or international) money order:
Take the original money order purchase receipt to a local Post Office™ location.
Fill out PS Form 6401 (Money Order Inquiry).
Pay the $3.15 fee.
You may file the claim at any time after purchasing the money order. However:
For a Domestic Money Order Inquiry it may take up to 60 days to receive information, replacement will not be made before 60 days after the date of issuance.
For an International Money Inquiry, replacement will not be made before 6 months after the date of issuance.
Note: Although the claim may be filed anytime, a photocopy of the cashed money order is only available for 2 years from the date the money order was cashed.
