I bought a new 2007 F350 yesterday, (my second powerstroke), anyway it has upfitter switches alongside the trailer brake controls. the salesman told me i can plug in power tools and use the truck as a power source. I've looked and looked but i can't find a plug anywhere. the owners manual is worthless on the subject. does anyone know what they do and how i use them. thank you
They are just there to hook up aux lights, or anyother 12V stuff. They are prewired and have relays and everything. The open end of the wires come out around the fuse box area. Can't remember exactly where but right now they are not hooked to anything. Thats up to you.
The upfitters give you 2 - 12Volt 30Amp circuits and 2- 12Volt 10Amp circuits. The wires are behind the fuse box in the cab by your left knee as you'rs sitting it. I extended one of the 30Amp through the firewall, along the frame and up between the cab and bed through a grommet in the front of the bed and hooked it up to a three way cigarette lighter from Radio Shack. To that, I plugged in a 400 watt inverter to run some regular AC items. If you want to power bigger power tools, you'll need to get a bigger inverter. Also, the upfitters only work when the key is on, but if you're going to run a larger inverter for tools, you should do the high-idle mod to set the idle up and keep the alternator putting out power while you are using the inverter. They can draw a battery down fairly quick.
6L pwr thats a great explanation about the upfitter switches. They just make it easier to add excessories because you have don't have to add fuse panels and aftermarket switches. Some of these so called salemen need a big 2X4 between the ears. They will tell you anything. I even had one young lady at our local Ford dealer tell me all about the new V-10 diesels comming in 08. OMG? LOL
thank you guys. it makes sense now. the salesman was new, he has been selling dodges for the last 12 yrs. he is selling a real truck now. this was his first sale, we found that out after the sale.
You should spend some time in the Tech folder at the top of this listing, it will give you some ideas and insight. Also the one in the 6.0 Diesel forum too . . .
