A rainy Christmas Eve / early Christmas morning the butthorns broke into my truck. Took my radar detector and leather ???business card case?? Left a very nice K-Bar knife and CD's.
5th truck break-in in 6 years... 3rd in my own driveway. And let's not forget my 16 foot tandem custom trailer that was stolen form my office last January.
Three weeks ago the neighbor behind me had their SUV popped and lost their OEM DVD system. Ripped it out so bad + broken window it cost over $ 2,500.00
Well, I was looking into putting up a wireless video system on the house perimeter due some very recent threats presented by a former employee where my wife works....she is an H.R. Manager. It won't prevent anything but, at least we can I.D. the little crack heads....
Any suggestions or recommendations for the "I see you" cams would be greatly appreciated.
Not to burst your bubble, but the local Sheriff's Dept here in Mid-Missouri recommended a very nice Security Video system with 24 hour recording VCR after we had a string of break-ins. Well, three weeks after the install we caught three people on video breaking into our video games and stealing quarters. We gave the video to the Sheriff's Dept who then asked if we knew the suspects. Of course, we didn't. If I had known them, I would have taken care of them myself. Since we didn't know them, they told us there was nothing they could do because they couldn't identify them. Since then, there were 14 other break-ins all by the same three people!! The Sheriff's couldn't do anything. Spent $1500 on the system and it didn't do anything.
On the other hand, I did manage to take care of the problem myself. I took an electric fence transformer and ran it through the 8 most popular games coin boxes. All metal boxes that didn't touch other metal in the game. They still broke-in two other times, but it was priceless watching them get hit by that on the video. Granted, they did end up doing bit more damage to the games, I guess it made them mad. ROFLMAO!! Wish I could find the vids I saved of them. The first time they must have grabbed the box three or four times before they realized what was happening.
I bought a driveway alarm, its made by Dakota Alert. Radio shack sells one too but It did not cover the hole driveway. I have a wider driveway than most so I went with the Dakota Alert. You put a sensor with a built in transmitter out by the your driveway and a receiver in your house. When it goes off I just let my dogs out of the back yard to investigate
According to your sig, you live in Texas. If I remember correctly, you can shoot people on your property after dark if they don't identify themselves..........
I wouldn't get a security system. I'd get a big Rottweiler, and a 44 magnum

I 2nd the driveway alarm.Good luck stealing my shtuff!
Sorry to hear that it happened again Keith. But if you do decide on video surveillance, DO NOT USE A WIRELESS SYSTEM. Those systems are not secure and anyone with a wireless camera hunter can grab the signal and know exactly what you can and can't see with your system. Infrared, wired CCTV systems are the best. Along with a crap-load of motion sensitive floodlights.

I got a nice .44 mag for sale! Ruger Super Redhawk with trigger job, jeweled hammer and trigger, polished cylinder and ported barrel. I can hit a grapefruit from 150 yards with open sights. Have the scope mounts also, just no scope.
I'll 2nd the driveway alert/monitor. I have one posted at the entrance of my long driveway (the only way onto the property) and it works great. I live in a large rancher and have 2 receivers (one in the bedroom and another at the other end of the house). My dogs have also learned what the "beeeeeep" means and go crazy. Sensitivity can be adjusted to your needs. When first installed, the dogs and deer would set it off, but I've tweaked it slightly to where someone on a bike or motorcyle will trigger it.
I will look into the drive alert as well. If you don't know they are there you can't do much. There are other reasons I will likely put up cameras as well that are more of a security measure outside of this incident.
In most vehicle burglary cases around here it is local punks showing how tuff they are...someone at school will know them....and I know lots of kids at the local high schools.
Got some 13 year old punks...male and female...a few houses...down trying to act tuff.
Believe it or not, we are in an upper middle class sub-divisions about 7 years old. The smallest home here is 2,300 square feet. The largest 3,700. 3 car garages...etc.
Some of the kids here are left to mind after themselves and have nothing better to do than hang out in the back alley and smoke...or whatever.
Would sure like to tag one them with a good camera shot.
I doubt that the driveway alert would work, since I'm willing to bet they approach on foot and not in a vehicle. As much as I like and admire the gun idea, I'd have to recommend against it. I would install motion sensor flood lights as a first line of defense, and then put the word out to high school kids in your immediate area that you are offering a reward for information as to who is responsible. What you choose to do with that info is then up to you.
Sorry to hear of the troubles... The few nights that I did have my boat stored in the field down the street from our house (in October) I almost slept in it just to make certain there wouldn't be any issues. There weren't, but I still didn't sleep very well (in the house). It's too bad that some folks just won't respect what isn't theirs
Sorry to hear you are having problems with breakins.
We went to a video sysem on our buses. You will be surprized who is doing what and probably know them. If you get one - get one with infared capability - to catch them in the dark. Ask for a demo of system before purchase/lease. Hope you get them soon. Wish you could power up the vehicle to give them a charge. Electric fencer works good.
PS. Thanks for your help with my problem.
We had a incident on Christmas eve of a 4X4 driving thru our corn fields . Just about caught them. If county mountie was 2 minutes earlier they would have been caught. Figure they did over $500 in damages and they also did in a neighbors yard.

Not a very good way to start out on christmas morning. hope it ending better.I had same problem in summer woke up at 2am heard noise in back yard let the dog out after 2 or 3 min of screaming and dog barking he came in with the back of a pant pocket and bloody. they wont be back.
Gunslingr. My driveway alarm works excellent. A person walking up to my house will trigger an alarm in my house every time. You can adjust the sensitivity so a bird will trigger it if you wanted. Its not the old rubber hose type that a car has to drive over. It has a electronic beam and if its broken it will trip the alarm. I think its the best thing since sliced bread!
