Flowmaster vs. FlowTech Mufflers
I just put a rebuilt 5.0 in my Bronco with a beefed up cam and its time for some new exhaust. I've been researching the different mufflers, and I am a little confused on the different types. The sound I am after is like the new Dodge and Chevy trucks have, that deep throaty rumble.
My plans are to cut off the second cat so I end up with the 3" pipe. Just a single muffler with single exhaust to the rear, 3" all the way back.
As for the Flowmaster they have 4 different 40 series:
Original 40
Delta Force
Delta Flow
Super 40
As for the FlowTech they have:
Terminator Bad Boys
Raptor Turbo Performance
AfterBurner Performance
I don't want a loud obnoxious crackling sound that you can't hear your radio in the cab, just a nice rumble that sounds real good under heavy acceleration.
Any thoughts?

i think i know the sound you're talking about, when they have straight pipe after the cat through fake split duals, gives it a real deep powerful sound. ive heard a flowmaster original 40 series on a 89 f150 [5.0] with a single highflow cat and a 2.5 inch tailpipe, i wasnt impressed.
on my 96 f150 [5.0] i ran duals off the manifolds, no cats, to a set of cherrybomb super turbo mufflers, through a set of manderal bent tailpipes then through 3.5 inch tips out the back, all pipe is 2.25 inch. it sounds badass.
inside the truck is quiet, radio is easily heard, makes a little noise on the highway but not a constant drone like the glasspacks made. at idle it has a nice deep broom broom broom sound, it can bairly be heard with the windows up. i had my buddy pull it out of my drive way and drive down the road so i could hear it. it had a very deep tone that could be heard till he turned off the street maybe a 1/8th mile away.
we cruised around and ended up on a empty stretch of highway i got out and he took off, this time i had him floor it. it sounded so nice, a real deep rumble leading to a couple seconds of cackles before it shifted. its loud enough to be heard, but not insanely loud like my beater, 351 with headers and glasspacks. there was very little interior noise, we had the air on and were talking like normal, like i said earlier i dont have to blast the radio to hear it.
for a compairison, my grand dad has a 95 chevy 1500, with a 350, it has the split duals with no muffler after the factory cat. idling side by side they're both about as loud as each other, but my 302 sounds ten times deeper then his 350.

FYI, Terminators and Raptors are both just regular Turbo-style mufflers. Afterburners are a different style (reversible) but not a turbo style that I know of. Supposed to make pretty good power, dunno about the sound.
OK I put the Terminator 3" muffler on this Bronco after cutting off the second Cat, holy cow is this thing loud! Will it quiet up some when I get the tail pipe installed and run to the back of the Bronco? Right now its dumping the sound right next to the tranny and its loud inside the cab.
i'm actually looking for some new mufflers. i have the 40 series delta flows. They are about 1 year old. but they have only been on the truck for about 3000 miles. I want a 1 chamber instead of 2 chamber. they are 2.5" inlet and outlet. With a center and offset. if u want them i'll give ya a deal on em.
dont know if you are still asking since this is a month old, but it should quiet down some in the cab when you get the tailpipe....how do you like the sound?

I have 40 series Flowmasters on my 78 with a healthy 460. They are 2.5 in and out, wish they wer bigger but got a very good deal from a freind parting out a Jeep CJ7. Any way, I had them running out the back and I hated the way they sounded. They had a pop to them. I had the muffler shop redo them for me. They shortened the pipes to where they turn down in front of the rear end and most importantly they installed a cross over pipe in front of the mufflers. The cross over pipe was a JEGS kit that was about $40.00. I love the way they sound now. What ever you decide to run use a cross over pipe. It equalizes exhaust pressure and makes them sound good.
