The official "Who's gonna pull the engine" thread

we can't get a sitter lined up for the critters, so the wife told me 'just go ahead".

I have to be back for the 31st come hell or high water, so as of right now, my plans are to leave Oakdale around 4-5am...give or take a few cups of coffee.

SHould put me in the area about 0900 or so.

I'll be limited in what O can carry...a small toolset and few chains of needed...since I'll have to to the run in the Honda Civic.

The forcast says decent weather from the 28th on, if the 10 day is off even a day, should still be a good pull on the 30th.

Someone has to bring some plywood for the cherry picker...last time I was at a PnP all the vehicles were up on welded wheels for stands, and no way to roll the truck...so we have to roll the engine.

Might be best to pull engine and tranny, then out, drop the tranny?

Anyway, I'm in, who else?

Mike, that is awsome, that you are planning on coming all the way over here. You da man.
So far, there seems to be myself, Fyre82, Skipped_link, and you. Hopefully there will be more, just for a good meet. Do you think there's a way to fit a 460 into the back of your civic? I know that souds far fetched. Probably not. Just was thinking that it would be nice to get this thing over to the other side of the hill to get things rolling on the project. Oh well, Fyre82 was talking about tinkerin with it so I suppose all is good.
Keep workin on the critter sitter. I have used the kennel over here in Gardenerville for my dog and cat, but they don't always have room at the inn. Especially at Christmas time. Probably alot of travellers. It would be cool if you and the little lady could make a fun trip out of it for yourselves. Since you have family out here and all.
Oh well.
Looks like we'll see ya on the 30th, unless the unforseen occurrs. Looking forward to it.

I'll be there, do we have a set time we are going to try & meet? and how about a location? I can bring a box of tools, & I also recruted a friend that can help us,

As for ply wood, last time I was at pick n pull, (the one in sparks) they had A-frames that rolled around on car tires, if the one in carson is like that it will be easy to pull the engine even in the dirt,

Depending on what is still on the truck it may be easier to just leve the tranny in the truck, I know the bell housing bolts aren't bad to reach, & if the engine turnes over freely the converter bolts will also be easy to remove, (if doesn't turn over freely we better find a better engine)

Cool,

Tim, can you check on the A frame and see if they have one?

And no, it won't fit in the Honda...and we're not even going to try

I will call on the a frame. I have seen the engine pullers there, the ones with the tires, but I don't know how much they charge to rent them. I'll find out. I do think we'll be needing a tarp and/or a piece of cardboard though, as it will probably be an uncomfortable lay on the wet ground.
I think if we have 'em, we should all bring tools. That way the chances of not having that one tool that we might need is reduced.
How do you guys feel about like 10:00? That way it would be approaching the warmer hours of the day about the time we get started.
Post back guys. I'll be heading out to my wife's parents house for Christmas celebration here in a couple of hours but will check back before I go.

I'll shoot you, Leroy, and Rich a pm.
If anyone else would like to come on out, post up and we'll include ya'll in the plans.

Man, I hope I can find all my tools. This time of year things tend to be left here and there in my garage from summer projects. Then I have to play heqq trying to find them come Spring. Happens every year for some reason. I wish I could just get used to putting them away after each use...

PM received.

I really don't have room in my garage for an engine at this point, snowblower and some summer crap storage, plus both of my vehicles live in there.
So I guess we need to figure out where it will go for tear down or whatever it is going to get. We'll talk about it when we pull I guess.

I'll be there unless something unforseen happens between now and then.

Rich

Someone had written on the windshield (I imagine the prior owner) that it runs good. I believe that they were trying to sell it, then resorted to calling the auto wreckers to haul it. Anyway, judging by the writing on the windshield, it probably doesn't need to be torn down, at least not until after we bust a rod over revving through the mud in the Nevada Mud Bog.

I would say that it needs to make its way to TigerDan's garage, since he has the truck it is allegedly going into. It may need to stay in the back of one of our trucks until it can be delivered. I don't have any room in my garage either.
That's okay, maybe we can wrap it in plastic to protect it from the elements until delivery.

Yeah Rich, we'll discuss what to do with it after we get 'er out.

I plan on going out there on Friday evening to check to see if it is still there and intact. That way, just in case, I can make sure that nobody makes the trip out there for nothing. It would suck if someone beat us to it and stripped the good stuff off of her. I would like to try to get it running right there in the yard, if possible.

Rich, I think they have engine hoists out there at Picknpull, that have rubber tires on them. I'll call and check to make sure. You may not need yours, but you never know. It may come in real handy if theirs is out of service or being used or something. I'll call you when I can.

I'll be running later than planned, I'm meeting up with JD on Sat. morning, then will head out. Probably be 1-ish before I get there

Tim, I need your email address to send money too, once you get the total.

You send money to an e-mail address???
Man, I've got to get with the times...

Or do you mean you need my mailing address for letters and stuff???

Let me know which one. You can send an e-mail via FTE, but let me know. Better yet, send me your phone number over PM so I can talk to you. That might be better. I believe that I did send you my phone number via PM. If you look through there you should find it. Either way, lets talk directly so I can verify what exactly we need to do.
