I recently bought a new left over 05 F350 6.0 Utility and I noticed that when I use the vent possition on the HVHC in the cold possition it seems pretty hot. Every other vehicle I have owned has never been this hot. Anyone else have something like this?
Is this after you have driven the truck, shut the enfine off for a few minutes, then restarted it? If so, this is common. Others have complained about the same thing on here. I don't remember the exact details about why it is happening, but has something to do with the location of the fresh air intake vent. After the truck has been ran, then sits for a few minutes, the air is warm when you restart the truck. I've noticed I have to drive several miles before it cools back down.

I also have this problem/feature. The vent never seems to get cool air even when driving. However, I do get cool air when I put the switch setting so that it blows air out of the vents and from the floor simultaneously and the temp guage set to cool. Not sure why this is but give it a try.
The coolant runs thru the heater core all the time. Somewhere there is a mod for shutting off the water to the heater core on the web. Basically is to use a valve in the coolant line to the heater core, either vacuum or electric or manually.
I experienced the same sort of problem last June. I was told by a Ford mech. in Estes Park, Co. that, as stated already, the coolant runs through the heater core all the time. Ford's attempt to get rid of more heat without putting a bigger radiator, fan, or anything else in or on the engine. Sounded logical to me, especially after I stood right there and watched him tinker with the exact same control valve I had messed with already. His tinkering confirmed that it was working properly. I'll pass on his advice to me: If you want cooler air, turn on the A/C.
I took my new “07” into service dept. to investigate hot air w/vent position. I was averaging 30-45 degrees above outside ambient air temp. They said everything checked out normal. I’m having to run the A/C with anything above 60’s . Should be a real hoot here come summer. At least with the diesel it should see same MPG A/C on or off.
You can buy a bipass valve that closes the constant flow to get cool air normally. The auto temp units like my King Ranch come with them. See it here . . .

The reason that you get cooler air in the 'hi-low' position is that the A/C compressor is running.

As well as the coolant running through the core, I think another contributor is that the engines sit so far back in the compartment that the vent ducts become 'heat soaked' after the engine has been running awhile.
I haven't noticed this so much on the 6.0L, because I leave the 'auto' setting on which runs the AC also through the vents to cool things down. My previous '00 V10 Exc. with the prior HVAC strategy was TERRIBLE with this. Not bad when first starting out, but especially when being stopped hot, then starting out again. Made the 'vent' postion useless.
