My dad is looking to buy a truck. The guy says it's a 1955 F-250, but we cannot find a VIN tag on it anywhere. The motor has the exhaust pipe that comes from the driver's side up towards the front and across to the passenger manifold then exits (via normal set-up) under the vehicle. The distrbutor is at the back of the intake.
The body is clean, but has visible body filler where the doors have been rubbing the fender portion and a little on the inner fenders.
The motor seems to run fairly well, but, I cannot find any info. The numbers on the intake are : EBV 8425-D. Can someone decipher ?? And/or give approximate value?? Either or is of value!!
John
I would assume the truck is a 118" wheelbase. I think all 250's were the same. The 8 foot box was called the Express. The engine is definitely a Y-Block if the left exhaust runs across the front of the engine to the right side exhaust manifold. The rear axle would be a dana 60 Salisbury-type. Axle ratio could be fairly high numerically (Low mechanically) for street driving. Ratios something like 4.56 and 4.88 were common. The engine is probably a 272, but there is a good chance it is not the original engine. 292 and 312 were common bolt in swaps for your truck. The VIN should be attached to the rear face of the drivers door. Although, short wheelbase F-100's are more in demand then long box or F-250's the condition of the truck and the desire in the eyes of the shopper determine the value. The good new is that you can purchase almost everything for the vehicle from about a dozen sources on the web, and you can amass catalogs for that vehicle to shop from. Key rust areas to look for would be front fender around the headlamps, at the rear of the front fender inner, where the outer fender and inner fender attach, at the rear fender where the running boards attach and front and rear cab mounts.
