Braces under 57 - 60 hoods
Hi,
The 1957 and 1958 hoods themselves are identical. Each just have different hood side emblems.
With the exception of very early 1959's, the 1959 and 1960 hoods are almost identical to each other except for "air vent" design in the front. 1959-60 differ a lot from the 1957-58 as far as design.
All 4 years (1957-60) had those braces underneath.
Hope this helps.
Kenny

Braces under 57 - 60 hoods
Kenny,
Good to hear from you. I have looked at 5-6 hoods with no braces. Do you remember I had a post about floppy hoods maybe this is why. It could be that they added the braces during the production run or mid year 57. I can't be sure but it doesn't look as if mine ever had them. One other thing my hood did not have the front center badge (like the 56 - 57) and had two T-bird type runners on the top side of the hood (one on each side). It also had the side emblems on the hood. Could this mean it is a very late 57 with a 58 hood? If so why no braces? The truck has been repainted and it has the factory color underneath leading me to believe it is the factory hood. If it is why is it so different?
Thanks Charles

Braces under 57 - 60 hoods
Hi Charles, Good to hear from you too. Those T-bird type "runners" sound like something that possibly was added on by a previous owner (JMHO). I have seen a lot of '57's over the years, but never personally have seen one that didn't have the front emblem. Your hood may have been a replacement hood early on in the trucks life, and may have come from Ford without the emblem. Could you post a picture of your hood for us? As far as the braces go, It is entirely possible that braces were added to the hoods after 1957 production already started. The same sort of thing happened with the 1959 hood. The very early 1959 hoods did not have the "raised section" in the center that went from front to back.

Braces under 57 - 60 hoods
LAST EDITED ON 19-Jul-01 AT 11:49 PM (EST)[p]No front to back braces or front or side emblems on my 57 hood... The only brace goes right to left back by the hinges, and it is not very sturdy. Hood has always been noisy to open or close.
