I have a 2002 Explorer XLS 2WD with 4.0 V6 and automatic. I just noticed the LED display for the miles is not lit up. I was working then just quit. Does anyone know if this is acommon problem? What does it take to fix - a new computer or a new guage cluster or what????? Thanks for your help in advance
i have not heard that problem on an Explorer, but it is a common problem on the F150. There is a cold solder joint on the back of the circuit board that holds the dash gauges. Most guys take out the dash board and repair it themself. I cant say the Explorer is same problme. On the 150, the lights will come and go on a daily basis, that way you konw it is a bad joint. If yours is DEAD and dont come back sometimes, it might be more like a fuse or something else. You caon go to the F150 page and type in "blackout" and get the old posts.
well Buddy, i hate to join the croud, but my 2002 EXP odometer just went out tonight. never had 1 problem, then dead blank. I banged on the dash, turned the key on an doff several times and nothing. Dont see anyting else off that would make me believe it is a fuse or something. Look in th eservice book an ddont see a fuse for the odometer.... guess i will try to pull the dash panel next weekend and see if i see a cold joint. I looked back in the archives, and do see a coule possibilities that this happened on the Exp. I know it happened on my 2001 F150 and i fixed it in a couple hours.
