95 F150 Ignition Switch - Need Help

I have a 95 F150 5spd and there is something wrong with the ignition switch. The switch turns even with no key inserted, and the steering wheel never locks. Will a new ignition switch solve this problem? Also, how hard is it to put the switch in, and do I need to be concerned with the air bag? Thanks for any/all replies.

I would think a new switch barrel would solve your problem. From reading other posts if you look underneath the steering column where the key goes you should see a very small hole. With the ign. switch turned to "on" insert a fine nail or drill bit into the hole and push in and hold, you should then be able to withdraw the barrel. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, my main question is... do I need to be concerned about the air bag system? The Haynes manual makes no mention of it. thanks...

No, it won't affect the air bag at all.

I have the same problem with my ignition, it fires up without the key, I'm gonna get fixed before I move.

I would definately disconnect the battery. Even though it is very unlikely you don't want that bag going off on you. I had one go off in an accident once and it sucked worse than the actual impact. the burns were horrible. Imagine a rug burn X 100. You may have to jiggle the lock cylender a little bit pulling in and out. It will give up eventually
