Has anyone ever installed Ford Motorsport gears? Did you ever read the instructions? Is step #10 in this instruction sheet done to keep the gears from making a "whirring" sound while coasting? http://www.fordracingparts.com/downl...And-Pinion.pdf
Racerguy,I had to have my differential rebuilt last week,again....long story....anyway,they used a Ford Motorsport OEM gear. They let me watch them do the install. They replaced pinion bearings and carrier bearings. The axle bearings, spider gears, and axle seals were replaced by another company....long story....
Anyway, they did not do step #10 per the instruction sheet. When they test drove it,it made a "whirring" noise while coasting. They tore it apart and replaced the pinion bearings, not doing step 10 again...test drive was the same.Tore it apart again, replaced the pinion and gear, not doing step 10 again..test drive was the same.Tore it down again, replaced pinion and gear, again, not doing step 10,again.Test drove, same thing.By this time it was closing time. They said to come back and they would install a US Gear because the Ford gears were bad.
If they do step #10 per the instruction sheet will this fix the problem? And if so,should I advise them of this, not wanting to step on there toes?
In step 10 it mentions using the pinion depth setting tool. Chances are they didn't have that.
Without a pinion depth tool you have to check the gear pattern like they show in step 14 and adjust it accordingly. Adjusting the pinion depth without the tool is a lot of trial and error. It sounds like they are good at the error part
